The Sunday Seven List of Spain Trivia
1. Spain was not in WWII, because they were in their own civil war, which ended in Franco's dictatorship. He "left" the ruling of spain after his death to the now king, who has worked to make it a more modern, democrtaic country.
2. The Canary Islands and two cities in Africa are Spanish territory.
3. The siesta is not for sleeping so much anymore, but some shops close, and people take looooong lunches instead, which is why dinner is so late and usually only drinks and tapas (appetizers).
4. A lot of the Spanish population is against bullfighting, and some cities have banned it. In the newspapers, it is listed under Arts, not Sports!
5. Like the rest of Europe, they are rather famous for being crazy, dangerous drivers.
6. Besides Castillion (Spanish), there are 5 other Official Languages in Spain: Catalan, Valencian, Basque, Galician, and Aranese.
7. Spain is the only European country with a desert, and second only to Switzerland in most mountainous country of the continent. It also has beaches, wetlands, farmlands, vineyards, and the windsailing capital of the world. (Sounds a lot like California to me!)
