Prez Debate #1

Ooooooh, what fun! I love, love, love debates!

Going into this debate, I expected to be rather bored as Obama looked inanimate and disorganized next to Hillary, and I expected McCain to look old and slow next to Obama.

Thankfully, I was wrong on both accounts.

I was so surprised at some of the arguments.

And I must say the best thing about this debate, was that they were different on almost every issue, and I that's good!

**************************************************

If you care, as I watched the debate on cnn.com, I wrote a couple impressions down. Nothing revolutionary. Feel free to add something with actual meaning in the comments ;0) But here it goes:

My bracelet is better than your bracelet. Not the best debate topic.

I am surprised at how strong MCain sounds. He comes across really knowledgeable.

McCain makes Obama sound like a lil boy.
Oh, well, when I was in Pakistan and Afghanistan and in war and lost and was under Regan...blah blah.
Makes Obama sound like he just fell off the turnip truck
OH wait- He did (in senate years that is)

This is the 1st time I have seen Obama look good and sound good. I never saw the "charisma" of Obama's speaking everyone talks about.
I think he will only get better.
Youth wins.

I wish McCain did not have such a left-field VP. I don't get her. I just don't.

It started boring, but got better.
They were both very John Kerry on the 1st couple questions.

I don't think sitting at the table means you love what they do or legitimize them.
Their power legitimizes them already.

Obama does sound like change next to McCain.
McCain sounds a lil stale in his ideas.

Very different dudes. I like it. Good debates a comin.
VP debate should be a slaughter though.
McCain cries on that day- I bet you

Obama: Kissinger said THIS.
McCain: Well when we were disco hoppin in the 70's, he told me THAT.
Obama: Nuh-uh!

McCain: I saw 3 letters in Putin's eyes: KGB
hahahaha

He says no cold war, but it sounds pretty cold to me.

We are in a financial crisis and we are supposed to "rebuild Georgia's economy"?
Srsly?

We NEEEED to all drive non oil cars like NOW.

No YOU don't walk your talk
NO YOU don't walk your talk
Duh- they're politicians.

Do you think we really "are a long way from safe?" (re: 9/11)

EITHER McCain is built weird or his suit doesn't fit.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! McCain just called Obama a Bush-like-stubborn-idiot!!! OMG!!!!
The balls on this one!!!!!

McCain sounds great but looks SOOO old next to Obama.

And he kinda sounds like Bush when he talks.
OMG, what if that VP lady became prez- eeeeeeek!

It took me like forever to stop focusing on Obama's ears.

I miss Hill-Dog!

The Teemu Rumor

Just when you though all I had to say about hockey was over.

HERE is an excellent article on how amazing our GM, Brian Burke, is. Everyone knows he's amazing. Well except people in Orange County. And considering the Maple Leafs were thinking of taking him away from us, we should show a lil more love. Take a look at it.

In that article is something called the "Teemu Rumor". Have you heard it?

Teemu has been contiplating retirement. He said his Stanley Cup year would be his last, but then he came in VERY late last season. Now, Burke says he will not have that luxery. He either starts with the team or can't come back. Good decision, if you ask me. But here is what the article said:

Teemu in Montreal?

If the Ducks won't allow Selanne to play another short season, would another team extend him the courtesy? There's been buzz before linking the Finnish Flash to the Canadiens, primarily because of his relationship with Saku Koivu, and there's again a discernible hum suggesting that Selanne is interested in closing out his career in La Belle Province. The 38-year-old appears to have a little something left after scoring 26 points in 23 games with Anaheim last season, but it's hard to believe GM Bob Gainey would grant him the latitude to pick his own start date. It'd be fun to see vets Selanne and Koivu line up together in the NHL, but classify this rumor as a longshot.

Long shot indeed. I am gonna have to say no freakin way on that one. What do you think? PS~ I only hope I am back in the states when they retire his number in Anaheim! How cool will THAT be??? *swoon*

Earth Day!

Maligned as liberal tree hugging day of child-like optimism, Earth Day is what you make it.
So what are you going to make of it tomarrow?
Planting trees and picking up litter are admiral, but they are not the only ways to celebrate (from THIS site):
*****Make crafts from trash that would have been thrown away. Turn it into something useful to you or nature, for example: a bird house.
*****"Learn more about the environment. Earth Day is a good time to make a commitment to learning more about the environment and how you can help to protect it. Borrow some library books and read up on an issue such as pollution, endangered species, water shortages, recycling, and climate change. Or, learn about a region you've never considered before, like the Arctic, the deserts, or the rainforests. Think about the issues that concern you the most and if you haven't done so already, join a local group that undertakes activities to help protect the environment in your area."
*****Wear green and/or brown. Make a badge or wear a sticker promoting Earth Day.
*****"Cook a special Earth Day meal. Plan a menu that uses locally produced foods, is healthy and has minimal impact on the environment. Favour vegetable and bean products, as these use less resources to grow than mass-farmed meat. If you still would like meat, look for locally produced, organic meat... Decorate the table with recycled decorations."
"
We are consumers living in a modern world. We don't all have the conviction to grow our own food or wear the same clothes our whole lives, and we don't all have the money to live in a completely "green" home like Julia Roberts.
But we can be responsable consumers.
I think the most important thing any one person can do is to PAY ATTENTION to what they BUY, EAT, and THROW AWAY. Just that. Pay attention to it. If you did, I think you would start making Earth-helping changes in your life without even trying, without anyone telling you what is "right" or "wrong".
Is it so much to do?

The Ducks Go Home

Ducks lost game 6 last night against the Dallas Stars.
We are out of the playoffs and the Stars go to the next round.
Sad.
We put up a good fight.
I hate all the other western teams.
Go Flyers (in the East).

You Doubt It?

A couple years ago, I was on my way to a Duck's game. Enigma had a vet appointmet just 45 minutes before that. I was sure in the cool evening weather he would be fine in the car. The game was against the Kings, and you know I cannot be late to watch the Kings lose. Well, I pulled into the crowded parking lot of the Honda Pond and rolled down the car windows to make sure Enigma had fresh air. He was stretched full-out on the back seat, and I wanted to make sure he understood that he was safe and should stay there. I walked toward the staduim backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Stay! Stay!" The driver of a nearby banged up car, wearing a Kings jersey, gave me a strange look and said, "Why don't you just put it in park?"
We arn't out yet!!
Playoffs against Dallas has gone this way:
Game 1: They win
Game 2: They win
Game 3: Tuesady at 5:30
WE MUST WIN!!! WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM!!!
GO DUCKS
If You Doubt Me, See Blog Post Below!!!!!!!

The Commissary Just Got Cooler!

When I was still researching Finland, planning my escape, before we got Spain orders, I learned that they pay a small fee for plastic bags in stores. Many people there, then, keep those bags and reuse them in other stores. I thought it was a fantastic way to cut down on waste. And I HATE having all those plastic bags in my house, but I cannot bear to throw them away! It is almost like littering now.
Not long after that, I saw that Ikea (a Swedish company) started the policy of charging for bags. Or you could by a sturdier bag that was better for more uses. I was so proud to see it in the U.S.
Around that time, in entertainment magazines, stars were seen carrying the ultra chic and super expensive bags used for shopping with these words on the front of the bag: I AM NOT A PLASTIC BAG. See? Even the cool kids were doing it!
Soon after that, Vonns started carrying lil black fabric bags to be used in place of grocery bags. They were 99 cents, and I picked up a couple everytime I went, and eventually had enough to not need those plastic bags! Even Target began carrying cute lil red bags that folded up and zippered close. They were small enough, that I began carrying them in my purse to be used in any store, so that I could avoid a plastic bag. Also, MANY stores have the policy of a small discount if you bring in your own bag!
Then I went to visit Jess in Hawaii, and being the ultra-hippie she has become since Maggie (way to go Maggie!), she had a ton of Chico bags. Fabric bags that squish up even smaller, so they are easier to carry around at all times. They run a lil higher in cost, but they are made of sturdier material.
Completely hooked on the no plastic-bag solution, I went to visit Grandma in TX. Even in the stix of TX, they had the lil black fabric bags for sale at the grocery store. I explained what they were for to Grandma, and told her that we may someday go the Nordic route of charging for plastic bags. Grandma said that she would wait until they "made" her buy the fabric bags. Can't win them all, eh?
After TX, I went to CO. I began preaching my bag politics to them. They patted me on the head, listened politely, and ignored me. Then I bought a few of the bags from the grocery store and a few from Target and actually put one in Grandma's purse. I am hoping I have planted the seed.
Mom made the good point that the plastic bags can be useful at home. And she is totally right. But inevitably, you will be somewhere without your fabric bag, or you will forget to use it, and you will bring some plastic home. This smaller amount of plastic bags, I am sure, would be all you need for things like the kitty box or trash.
Now here is the cool part! Yesterday, I saw that in the commissary here on base, we now have lil green fabric bags for sale!! I am so excited to see that the military family is jumping on the bandwagon! YAY!
Are you on the bandwagon??
BTW, here is an Post on this from another funny blog.

Waste Your Wednesday

It seems the voyer in Obama wants to know what Hillary Clinton was doing every minute of every day while she was in the White House. And thanks to one of the coolest acts we have- The Freedom of Info with Retractions Act, we can know everything from who she saw, where she went, who she called, and in some cases, even the weather.
I was fliping through it, I and did not find much interesting, but maybe you can.
Click HERE to get your government granted info!
Also, HERE is an article on it.
Tell me something. Does the calandar month portion look like Outlook to you? Somehow I thought they would use something cooler than that in the White House.

Induldge Me

The Anaheim Ducks had lost 3 out of 3 of their last games before a certain

came back to play rather than retire.

Since he has come back we have won 4 out of 4 games!

To be fair I must mention that we played the Detroit Red Wings ( a Stanley Cup Favorite and Ducks rival) TWICE.

Oh, and we happened to WIN twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahaha.

You know, I think it is about time Hockey got its dues, and the 1 thing Bush did right was honor the 2007 Stanley Cup Winner, the Anaheim Ducks!

I sniff another cup in out future...

Democratic Debate

Did anyone catch the Democratic debate between Obama and Clinton tonight. Lucky for me, Ernie had it on, so I only missed the beginning.
Is it the last one???
The reporters said they differ on Iraq and healthcare.

I missed the healthcare part, but I heard later how they differed. He wants lower prices for HC, and of course Clinton wants "world healthcare".

Iraq was pretty much the same thing, only he has a deadline date.

I was a lil diappointed. I was looking for more differences between the 2 that were important. But I did notice that Obama seemed to come out swinging a lil more.
Grandma lamented that it was horrible in "This America" today there is no one who really "stands out!" Mom said no one has since she started voting.
I said that was not true! Ross Perot stood out! I mean I did not want him for prez, but admit it, he did stand out (well his ears did)!

I hope they are on the same ticket. Nobody can beat that.

Your Opinion

Do you think Heath Ledger's death
was a suicide or accidental drug overdose?

Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominations are out. Those who know me, know I hate the Oscar committee, and in protest of previous snubs against the directors of Moulin Rougue and Fight Club, I never watch them. Also, they are boring.
But just like the Superbowl, I have to know who is going and what happens afterward.
Of course, the fashion pictures and commentary are my favorite part, and I never get tired of looking at new and old Oscar pictures.
But for those of you who like the award show, I have to say that the nominees this year look very snoozy. I think I have seen maybe 2 movies mentioned. Has anyone seen this "Out for Blood" that gained so many nominations?
Who are you rooting for?

Watching the news?

Irvine, Malibu, San Diego, Lake Arrowhead all on fire. Last night there were 107mph
winds.
My plants got knocked down! There is ash all over all my furniture. The sky is grey and the air tastes bad, and I want to cough all the time. Besides that, thank heavans we are all safe here in Costa Mesa.
Also, Bahrain is in the
news.
There was a shooting involving the Navy there, but I talked to John and he is fine. A little miffed, because he was stuck on base for a while, but that's all.
On a happier note, the Stanley Cup Champions got their championship rings!

Way to go guys!!

Thank You Ducks for the Send-Off of Champs!

John, Nima, Moo, and I would like to thank the Anaheim Ducks for getting the job done last season.

Knowing that we were goingto Spain, and watching as much hockey as I was last season, and knowing there would be none of that in Espana, I got down on my knees and asked the hockey gods for the Ducks to win the last whole season that I would see them in.
I watched almost every game either in person (a couple times) or on TV. And I would do it with my new jersey John got me for last Halloween, my lucky marble in my pocket (usually only reserved for public speaking, flying, and test days), and my list of players that I kept a running tab of notes on throughout the season. In the end, I had to put it in a page protector, because it was so "loved", it was feeling more like cloth than paper.
Well, as you know (I sure hope you do), they won the Stanley Cup. If you don't know that is like the winning the Superbowl. SO no matter what happens this season, I leave the country with the Ducks as winners!!
