Christmas Comes Early In Spain

Christmas has come early!

Many a moon, I have been looking for the Disney version of a Christmas Carol. (also HERE) Internet searches left me empty handed; I am not used to being let down by the WWW! The day before Thanksgiving Day, I found it! At the exchange on base! It is in the 3rd story in Classic Holiday Stories.

It is even better than I remember! OLD animation: sketchy, like Dumbo or Jungle Book. And silly like the old Disney shorts. Remember the one where Goofy, Daffy, and Mickey were ghost busters?

The humor follows that line. You almost don't need the dialog.

So many things I had forgotten!

* Jmminy Cricket is the ghost of Christmas Past.

* Scrooge is SCOTTISH! I thought so when he said the word "go". I thought, that sounds like Cho Chang from Harry Potter Movie 4. Then he said "I assure you" and apparently, if you are Scottish and are trying to hide it, NEVER say "I assure you!" Busted!!

Here are some other trivia (thanks to IMDB):

* Made in 1983
* This is the last film where Clarence Nash provides the voice of Donald Duck and the first where Wayne Allwine provides the voice of Mickey Mouse.
* This is also the first time that Alan Young provides the voice of Scrooge Mc. Duck. Bill Thompson, who'd done the voice in SCROOGE MCDUCK AND MONEY (1967), had already passed away, and Alan Young's voice is noticeably softer than Thompson's was, with a stronger Scots accent. (Duh)

* The opening scene is apparently modeled on a Carl Barks painting called "The Season To Be Jolly", which features Uncle Scrooge walking down the street with a bag of money on his back.

Must See!

Tinkerbell has her own movie coming out on DVD "this Fall"!!!!

Check out the PREVIEW.

I have heard of this movie, but I thought it was going to be the story of the Disney Fairies BOOKS, of which there are many. However, it looks to be the story of just Tinkerbell!

I Do Believe in Fairies, I Do, I Do!

LA Story

When was the last time you saw this movie?

~

L.A. Story

~

With Steve Martin

~

It is HI-larious:

The Freeway Sign

and sooo romantic:

The walk through the garden when they become young again

I love every scene:

The interpretation of the painting in the LACMA

and every line:

"Why is it that we don't alway recognize the moment love begins, but we always know when it ends?"
Or
"A kiss may not be the truth but it IS what we wish were true."

And Rick Maranis as the gravedigger with a sense of humor and Sarah Jessica Parker so young and silly.

AND every Star Trek Next Gen fan must see Patrick Stewart as the evil Maitre De.

Don't forget LA is where Sheakspeare was burried and he said once: "Hey, life is pretty stupid with lots of hubub to keep you busy but really not amounting to much." Oh, but that's a paraphrase ;0)

Watch it!

And if it is 1 am and you are feeling quite hormonal, try not to cry when the plane can't take off.

Who needs Hollywood?

Have you seen any of Spain's films?
There is a huge movie theater in the town of Puerto near us. I promised John that I would NOT be asking him every 5 minutes what was going on if we went. I am sure I can figure enough out just by faces and voices. I did grow up watching Spanish Novelas after all.
Until then,
I have only seen two Spanish films:

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

If you see this subtitled movie anywhere, please let me know. I saw it years ago and it is hilarious. It is that old story of a normal everyday woman who does something out of the ordinary and all this comedic drama tumbles down on her. I also remember that a very young Antonio Bandares is in it. It was really funny.

Pan's Labrynth

This movie is a lil hard to watch at first. But I loved it right off. It is a very dark fairytale told with the backdrop -just after the Spanish civil war. The little girl and her fairies unfold their story right along side a rebellion, torture, murder, corruption, and just plain evil. This one I have on DVD.

Any Spanish movie reviews to add??

Walk Hard, The Dewey Cox Story

A few nights ago, John and I saw Walk Hard.

It is a spoof of Walk the Line. I think I was the only one in the theater that had seen Walk the Line, because I was practically rolling on the floor with laughter at the jokes which seemed to go over everyone else's heads. Even John's. He has not seen that movie either, so he kept asking me why things were funny. It is a very silly, Will Farrel-type movie.

It stars the actor who played the best friend (Cal) in Talladega Nights. He was hilarious in both movies. But he also sang quite a bit in Walk Hard, which is not surprising since he also played Roxi's hubby in Chicago and sang the very heartbreaking solo, Mister Cellophane.

I thought the funniest scene of the movie by far was when Dewey (main character) goes to India and meets the Beatles. They are obviously during their phase of loathing eachother.
So they are at eachother's throats. It is so hilarious!!!
The best line from that scene is when John Lennon asks Paul McCartney (played by Jack Black of all people),
"I wonder if your songs will still be shit when I am sixty-four!"

Spiderwick Chronicles

I did not want to see this movie. It looked so Narnia in the previews. But it isn't! I had never even heard of the books before.

The movie is full of fairies, goblins, troll, brownies, and a grifiin!

I loved it. The girl in it is so pretty, I think she will be famous someday.

What I liked most about this movie, is it did not have that Epic feel- like Narnia and Golden Compass. There is no indication of another one.
Just a fun movie.

Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominations are out. Those who know me, know I hate the Oscar committee, and in protest of previous snubs against the directors of Moulin Rougue and Fight Club, I never watch them. Also, they are boring.
But just like the Superbowl, I have to know who is going and what happens afterward.
Of course, the fashion pictures and commentary are my favorite part, and I never get tired of looking at new and old Oscar pictures.
But for those of you who like the award show, I have to say that the nominees this year look very snoozy. I think I have seen maybe 2 movies mentioned. Has anyone seen this "Out for Blood" that gained so many nominations?
Who are you rooting for?

Sunday Seven

A list of the
Sunday Seven Last Movies I Have Seen
1. Pulp Fiction- Nino and I watched this classic with the trivia track on last night. I love watching it like that. I wish a lot of movies had that feature. Instead of captions at the bottom of the screen, it is trivia about the scene or actor or music or whatever at the moment in the film.
2. Rebel Without A Cause- It had been ages since I had seen it, and Nessa is a big James Dean fan, so we rented it on a whim. So much teenage angst. Natalie Wood was not that pretty, if you ask me. And James Dean's laugh is hilarious- squeeky!
3. A Scanner Darkly- Whoa! This is a wierd one. It was shot on normal film, then animated over, so some backgrounds or objects are still "real", while all the characters are cartoonish. It was based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, which is Nino's current favorite author.
4. Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street- This movie was good. Tim Burton's movies have that same look and wierd humor. The songs were a lil hokey, but Helena Bonham Carter was GREAT!!! She stole every scene she was in, I think. Johnney Depp was ok, but he looked a lot like he did in Edward Scissorhands.
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix- The last one out and my favorite!
6. Stardust- I watched this with Mom. I was unsure, because the previews looked aweful, but I thought it was really funny. Of course, I love Claire Danes and the lead actor is a cutie. Michelle Pfiffer as the evil witch was great. I laughed a lot during this movie.
7. Idiocracy- A hilarious movie that did not get talked about at all. Nessa, Nino, and I quote it constantly though. It stars Luke Wilson, who is not my favorite actor, but the movie has some great lines. Very Very Silly.

Maligned Art

Go See This Movie!
The Golden Compass

I loved it!!!

So many bad things were said about it, but John and I could not wait to go see it after we read that Christian groups were banning it! That usually means- good movie!

I thought it was great- better than the previews by far. And it made so little money that they are probably not even going to make the rest of the story. You see the movie does not really END. You have to wait to find out more.

I thought Nichole Kidman was Scary As Hell!! And her little monkey is enough to give you nightmares for sure!

Anyway, I hope you saw it. It is probably not even showing anymore. I hate people sometimes.

Good Bye Furniture

Tomarrow, I see all my furniture begin its journey to Spain! Tonight we had to go through everything to see what we would not mind seeing for the next 3 months. Tough desicions to make.

Has anyone seen Beowulf? It is really cool. I heard it was annoying animation, but John and I were both impressed with it. Angelina Jolie is aaawwweeesome! She is a water demon and her feey have built in heels! Can you imagine? Anyway, I highly recommend it.
