Sunday Seven

Feeling Green? Wanna chemically free clean? My crunchy friend, Jess, probably already knows all these, but I just found out some of them in our base newspaper.
~
The Sunday Seven Uses for Lemons
~
All Purpose Cleaner
Equal amounts lemon juice to water in a spray bottle is a disinfectant and removes scuff marks from walls.
~
Toilets
Pour some lemon juice in the bowl and sprinkle with baking soda. Then scrub with a brush to clean the bowl without chemicals.
~
Degreaser
Lemon juice is a natural degreaser. Use a few drops in a pan and you will not need as much soap to clean it. Also, add some to your dishwasher detergent.
~
Scrubber
Cut a lemon in half, dip the exposed side in salt. Rub it on stainless steal, pots, pans, and granite. It will be shiny and smell great!
~
Wood Polish
The newspaper says use 1 cup of olive oil (I prefer almond oil) to 1/2 cup lemon juice. Use sparingly and rub with a dry cloth. Works WAY better than pledge.
~
Hand Sanitizer
Add a few drops of lemon juice to Aloe Vera gel to disinfect and remove fish and garlic smells from hands (so it says, nothing ever removes garlic from my hands)
~
Clean Smelling Fridge and Microwave
Dampen a sponge in lemon juice and let sit in the fridge for a few hours to soak up yucky smells. Or add lemon juice to a bowl of water and microwave it for 30 seconds, then wipe out.
~
Makes me wish I had a tree. Have you tried any of these?
Lemon is also one of the BEST aromatherapy scents, because it cheers you up. (Unfortuantely for me, it also increases my appetite.)
~
Just another note on Green. This is a great blog for it:

I have stayed up all night. It is now 5 AM. Why do I do this to myself?
Anyway,
I started making Harry Potter Graphics on Photobucket.
From HERE
you can get the image, html code, or direct link! Easy, no?
(Granted, this is for the true HP nerds. The page will grow, I am sure, as these are so fun to make.)

Sunday Seven Ways to Eat in Spain
1) Do it LATE! Breakfast at 10, Luch at 3, Dinner at 9, clubbing at 1AM ( and all those times are early!!!)
2) Love them sammiches. I cannot remember or find online for the life of me what they are called, but they are ALL you find places. It is a mini baguette of fresh bread, meat(usually ham), and cheese if your lucky- AND THAT'S IT!
3) Wine for lunch, beer with dinner, liquer if you dare--- It is WAY stronger here than U.S.
4) Tapas- nothing but appatizers! Yummy! Usually cold cuts, potato salad made with olive oil rather than mayonnaise, and the Spainsh Tortilla.
5) When you go with friends, you split the bill as to how many there are of you- NEVER seperate checks- very rude. You pay more now, but you pay less another time. Must be Spainish Culinary Karma.
6) Ham- even vegetarians eat it here- NO KIDDING! You better love ham!!!
7) Planning on eating after a bullfight? Guess what you will be eating. That's right! The main star!! And no piece goes unserved- NO PIECE! Even the tail is a delicacy! All the surrounding resteraunts have the bull on the menu that night.

Sunday Seven

I found a language school in Cadiz!
I am so excited about this. I cannot wait to start. So this Sunday, I want to share with you
Sunday Seven Facts About K2 Internacional de Espanol
1.) You choose your class size. There are classes up to 8 or you can have complete 1 on 1 teaching. I am not sure we could afford that one.
2.) I will be going during the "low season" (not summer), so the price is lower.
3.) The class I will probably take is the Superintensive Class. It has a small class 5 days a week, but once a week, you get 1 on 1 teaching. The lessons go faster as well.
4.) The price per week for that class 210 Euro. (Guess it is time I learned where the Euro sign is on my keyboard, huh?)
5.) You meet other people in the class to take tours and practice with.
6.) They also have classes that are Spanish+Flamenco lessons, Spanish+Surfing Lessons, and Spanish+Cooking lessons!!
7.) The site is HERE.

Sunday Seven

A list of the
Sunday Seven Last Movies I Have Seen
1. Pulp Fiction- Nino and I watched this classic with the trivia track on last night. I love watching it like that. I wish a lot of movies had that feature. Instead of captions at the bottom of the screen, it is trivia about the scene or actor or music or whatever at the moment in the film.
2. Rebel Without A Cause- It had been ages since I had seen it, and Nessa is a big James Dean fan, so we rented it on a whim. So much teenage angst. Natalie Wood was not that pretty, if you ask me. And James Dean's laugh is hilarious- squeeky!
3. A Scanner Darkly- Whoa! This is a wierd one. It was shot on normal film, then animated over, so some backgrounds or objects are still "real", while all the characters are cartoonish. It was based on a novel by Philip K. Dick, which is Nino's current favorite author.
4. Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street- This movie was good. Tim Burton's movies have that same look and wierd humor. The songs were a lil hokey, but Helena Bonham Carter was GREAT!!! She stole every scene she was in, I think. Johnney Depp was ok, but he looked a lot like he did in Edward Scissorhands.
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix- The last one out and my favorite!
6. Stardust- I watched this with Mom. I was unsure, because the previews looked aweful, but I thought it was really funny. Of course, I love Claire Danes and the lead actor is a cutie. Michelle Pfiffer as the evil witch was great. I laughed a lot during this movie.
7. Idiocracy- A hilarious movie that did not get talked about at all. Nessa, Nino, and I quote it constantly though. It stars Luke Wilson, who is not my favorite actor, but the movie has some great lines. Very Very Silly.

Sunday Seven

I have been on my couch almost continuously for the last 48 hours playing with my new computer. So, forgive me if I am a lil obsessed with it, and it has affected this week's list of:
Sunday Seven Reasons My Computer Rocks:
1. It is small. It is not as big as John's laptop. It is cuter and smaller and easier to schlepp around- so girly.
2. It has a cute friend. I got a lil external portable hard drive, and it is just as small and cute. I feel so important. Like I should be orchestrating a corporate takeover instead of loading pictures of my cat!!
3. I can write on it. It is a tablet, so the screen swivels around and folds down and it has a lil "pen" that I can write instead of type. It took a lil getting used to, but like I said, I have been putting in the time. Also,
4. It likes my handwriting- not yours! The more I write, the more it picks up how I write and it makes recognition easier. Last night, I wrote a ton of emails without ever having to type. The only thing I still have to master is spaces. It gets a lil vague with spaces.
5. Games are so cool! In the tablet form, with the pen, games like Mah Jong are so much more fun and quick. Also, so are things that you do a lot of clicking like deleating emails or loading pictures.
6. I really needed this thing! No really!! My desktop is a dinasaur and it has been intermittent at best with the internet. So it is nice to have a reliable toy. It will also be perfect for school.
7. I just got it, and there is so much more to learn about it and get for it. I have a lil wireless mouse, but I don't like it. It is not very precise. John and I are going out today (if I can pry my butt outta the couch) to get a lil purse for it. Hehehe. Assecories are fun!
Well, there you go. Sorry I have not been on the ball lately with the blog, but I will be now. Happy Sunday!

Sunday Seven

Here is one you did not expect.

There is an info site on Spain that loves the country, but to be fair wanted to make a list of the what they didn't like about it! Keep in mind, these are stories from individual's vacations- not encompassing Spain as a whole.
And guess what! There are seven!
SO

The Sunday Seven Very Worst Things About Spain:
7. Road Rage (I told you they are scary drivers!)
6. The Worst Desert Ever: Pig's Blood Crepes
5. Benidorm: A Very Touristy Resort Town
4. Uncomfortable Bus Rides
3. Ladies of the Night at All Times of the Day
2. Constant Construction in Barcelona
1. The Crumbling Town of Lleida

Click HERE and scroll down to read the stories that go with each one.
They are pretty funny. And the site's author has his/her own list as well.

Hey,
Nobody's perfect!

Sunday Seven

Cole was under the weather yesterday, so Nessa could not go to Denver. Nino came with me instead. It was his first hockey game. I was just excited to see some of the players that I have not seen in Anaheim, although it felt wierd cheering for another team! We stayed the night in Denver and went to the Denver Art Museum the next day. All our fun inspired this next Sunday Seven. Sorry it's late!

At the Hockey Game

Sunday Seven List of Reasons to Visit Denver

1. It is relatively clean and safe- especially compared to DC or LA.

2. Traffic and parking were not a problem, and it was not hard to get around. We never really got lost, although we had some trouble finding the Pepsi Center. Really. How hard is it to see a Stadium!

3. The leaves change and fall off, and it snows! Seasons! Cities look gorgeous changing in the seasons. I think that was DC's only saving grace.

4. The Avalanche are a good team, and the fans are even better. The stadium was fuller and louder than most of the Ducks games I have been to. And the Avs lost!

The Avalanche from our seats

5. The Denver Art Museum is the best museum I have been to so far. Smaller than LACMA, it is two buildings with gardens and large sculptures in the courtyards. It was pretty easy to find what we wanted and they had a ton of interactive games and things to do. Also, it is located downtown right next to the state capital buildings and park, which made for a pretty walk.

Nino playing dress up at the Museum

6. You are only two hours away from the fantastic city of Pueblo West (where my family is)!

7. I had a wonderful time and I want to go back to do some of the things that we did not have time for this trip. I really want to go back to the Museum as well. They are having a show of paintings, drawings, furniture, and treasures on loan from The Louvre that were once housed in Versailles. That is all right up my alley. There is also a big amusement park right next to the stadium, but it was closed for the winter.

The Sunday Seven List of Spain Trivia

1. Spain was not in WWII, because they were in their own civil war, which ended in Franco's dictatorship. He "left" the ruling of spain after his death to the now king, who has worked to make it a more modern, democrtaic country.

2. The Canary Islands and two cities in Africa are Spanish territory.

3. The siesta is not for sleeping so much anymore, but some shops close, and people take looooong lunches instead, which is why dinner is so late and usually only drinks and tapas (appetizers).

4. A lot of the Spanish population is against bullfighting, and some cities have banned it. In the newspapers, it is listed under Arts, not Sports!

5. Like the rest of Europe, they are rather famous for being crazy, dangerous drivers.

6. Besides Castillion (Spanish), there are 5 other Official Languages in Spain: Catalan, Valencian, Basque, Galician, and Aranese.

7. Spain is the only European country with a desert, and second only to Switzerland in most mountainous country of the continent. It also has beaches, wetlands, farmlands, vineyards, and the windsailing capital of the world. (Sounds a lot like California to me!)
